Chaska 50 Osseo 44
The first 5 minutes of the second half proved to be the difference in the opening round of the State tournament Wednesday afternoon. Chaska quickly erased the Orioles 3 point halftime lead and jumped out to a 29-22 lead. Osseo attempted to claw its way back to victory, but the uncharacteristic turnovers and missed free throws caught up with the Orioles. When you combine 19 T.O.s with 32% field goal shooting, and 37% free throw shooting, you will have little chance of getting through a state tournament game against a very good Chaska team. Although the Orioles were dissapointed in their state tourney outcome, you can not erase an outstanding 24-6 season that included an unforgettable run to the tourney.
The Orioles would like to extend their great appreciation to all the Oriole nation that attended the game at the Target Center Wednesday. Win or lose, a chance to play in that environment in front of the whole Oriole family will be an experience these young ladies will never forget.

State Tournament Time!!!! Osseo vs. Chaska - Noon Wednesday - Target Center
Osseo Orioles 62 Centennial Cougars 56
If you attended the first game January 21 between Osseo and Centennial, you likely left the gym with the thought of this being the year of the Cougars. The Osseo Orioles had other thoughts as 18 young ladies were in the gym the next morning working to prove that although a serious statement was made that evening, they would make their statement in March. Thursday evening Osseo never trailed in defeating the previously undefeated and USA today #7 nationally ranked Centennial. Outstanding teamwork and determination proved to be the difference in this one, as Osseo will be making a return trip to the state tournament. Centennial certainly is an outstanding basketball team, and deserves all the accolades they have received, but this evening belonged to another great team. Osseo will now focus thier attention on winning a state title. This years tournament field looks outstanding. Osseo will be playing Wednesday at the Target Center with time and opponent to be decided on Sunday morning.

Centennial 71-Osseo 57
The #1 ranked Cougars scored the final 9 points to pull away and clinch the NWSC title Friday night at Osseo. The second meeting of the top two teams in the conference proved to be much more competitive than the first meeting, but the Orioles still came up on the short end. The Orioles got excellent contributions from several players Friday night which included season high scoring outputs from Kendra Ware and Brianna Olson. Additional coverage, pictures, and a highlight video can be found at gprep.net. Varsity record currently stands at 19-5, and 14-2 in the NWSC. Osseo will look to bounce back Tuesday evening vs. Blaine.

Osseo escapes for 7th win in a row.
Danielle Mangen found her shooting stroke at the right time Saturday for the Orioles. 2 clutch 3's by Mangen, and 2 late free throws by sophomore Jessica Fife iced a 51-47 Saturday afternoon contest with Duluth East. Mangen hit for 14 of her team leading 16 points in the second half. It was cold outside, and equally cold inside as the Orioles had a difficult time finding their shooting rythm all day - shooting a dismal 30% from the field, and 50% from the line. Another recap of the game can be found on KJA's site : http://gbbrecruit.blogspot.com/search/label/out%20about%200708%20hs Osseo 61 - Park Center 44
In a similar game to Saturday, the game on Friday night was a tale of 2 halves. Local rival Park Center came out blazing hot to start the game scoring 29 first half points. In the second half the Oriole defense, and some solid offensive post play from Kylie Gottsman pushed the Orioles to a 13-1 NWSC record. Solid perimeter defense from Marny Ferarra, Brianna Olson, and Kendra Ware stiffled the Pirates top offensive threats in the second half- holding the Pirates to 15 points. The Orioles continue conference play @ Coon Rapids Tuesday evening.

Osseo 59- Elk River 49
The Osseo Orioles Varsity beat Elk River Wednesday evening in a very physical contest to avoid a program sweep at the hands of the elks. The other 4 Osseo teams struggled early in the evening, primarily scoring vs. the Elks zone defenses. The Orioles varsity completed a season sweep of a good Elk River team behind some excellent perimeter defense and a career high in scoring from Chiamaka Okonkwo - 17 pts, and a career high in rebounds for Jennie Sunnarborg- 17 boards. Orioles improve overall record to 16-4, and NWSC record to 12-1. Play continues Friday evening with a Varsity double header with the Boys team at Osseo. Varsity girls tip off at 6PM.

Orioles bounce back - take 4 out of 5 from the Rebels
Osseo proved to be a team that will put setbacks behind them as they responded to a tough night at Centennial with a nice 63-43 Varsity victory over the 11-5 Champlin Park Rebels. The tone for the evening was set by the younger programs with the 9th grade A getting the early victory 46-36. The Sophomores overcame some poor first half execution and rolled to a 15 point win with a great second half. The Junior Varsity squad proved that the score will take care of itself if you continue to compete. Champlin jumped out 18-2 early, and led 18-8 at half. The Orioles had an awfull first half shooting the basketball, but remained their composure. 6 Minutes into the second half the game was tied at 20, and the Orioles willed it out from there 38-34 to avenge one of their 2 losses on the year.
Varsity record improves to 12-4, and 8-1 in the NWSC. The program heads to Andover Friday evening. See you there!

Centennial Takes it to the Orioles
Riding a 4 game win streak since the New Year started, the Osseo Orioles Varsity was excited for the challenge that the states top ranked Centennial Cougars would bring last Friday night. The outcome certainly wasnt what the Orioles were hoping for. Centennial finished the last 14 minutes with a 41-7 run to solidify themselves as the top team in the NWSC and section 5AAAA with a 83-40 win. Osseo could not overcome a miserable night shooting (19%), and the extremely efficient transition game of the 9th ranked team in the country. Down 11 points at half time after a 7-40 first half of shooting, the Orioles found themselves still in the game. The Orioles cut the lead to single digits 42-33 in the first 4 minutes of the second half. Then Centennial dialed up their defense and running game, and the Orioles responded poorly to start the incredible run. Osseo stands at 11-4 overall, and 7-1 in the NWSC. Centennial improved to 16-0. Osseo will return home Tuesday evening to face the Champlin Park rebels. Holiday Tourney Recap
The Osseo Orioles Varsity came away 1-2 in the Dicks Sporting Goods holiday tourney at Hopkins. Osseo opened with a 61-49 win over Cretin Derham Hall. The girls did an excellent job of taking advantage of their inside game. Jennie Sunnarborg led the way with 16 pts. and 9 rebounds. Amy Hildebrand had 6 assist in the game. In the Semifinals, the Orioles were defeated by the 5th ranked Hopkins Royals. Early foul trouble, and sloppy passing haunted Osseo. Kylie Gottsman continued her improved play with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.
In the 3rd place game vs. the 4th ranked Eastview Lightning the Orioles came up 6 points short. Eastview point guard Britnye McSparron was lights out scoring 41 of the teams 66 points. The Orioles had 4 players reach double figures in scoring - Chiamaka Okonkwo had 12 pts. and 12 boards, Sunnarborg 11, and Amy Hildebrand and Brianna Olson put in 10 each. The tournament outcome may not have been what the Orioles were looking for, but the tournament was an excellent learning experience for the Orioles as they certainly held ground against arguably the best competition in the state of Minnesota. Jennie Sunnarborg was named to the all-tournament team.Conference season resumes at home Friday vs. Anoka.
Sophomores Finish Runnerups!
Congratulations to the Osseo sophomore team as they continued excellent early season play by finishing runnerups in the Hopkins Holiday Tournament. They lost a tough championship game to a Mpls. South team that borrowed a few players from their Varsity for the game. Nice work sophs!

Sophomore Season Update
The sophomore team is off to a nice start to the season, opening 5 – 1 (3 – 0 in conference). The team had hard fought wins against Buffalo, Southwest, Champlin Park, Maple Grove and Elk River. The sophomores have used an improving and gritty defense to shut the opponents down and balanced scoring, as evident by having 4 different girls lead the scoring in each of the 6 games. The team is looking forward to challenge of continuing to improve and the tough games that loom in the Hopkins Holiday tournament. Coach Ruska

Ugly but effective
Osseo 61- Maple Grove 50
A game filled with fouls and poor shooting by both teams, Osseo escapes with a nice win over the Crimson. To give you an idea on the type of game it was, Osseo hit its first FG with 4 minutes to go in the first half. Osseo shot 2-27 in the first half- much attributed to some good Maple Grove defense, yet only trailed by 2. The shooting did improve some in the second half when Osseo outscored Maple Grove 41-28. Junior guard Danielle Mangen hit 5 3 pointers in route to 18 points, and Senior Jennie Sunnarborg went for 15 points and 13 rebounds. Osseo improves season record to 5-1, and conference record to 2-0.

Week 1 Varsity Summary
The week started a little rough for the Orioles with an opening night home loss to the Royals from Rogers. Poor shooting, and turnovers did in the Orioles vs. a very good Rogers team. Senior Jennie Sunnarborg paced Osseo with 15 points and 7 boards.
Osseo rebounded from the opening night loss with consecutive victories over Buffalo and Minnetonka. Osseo was strong out of the blocks vs. Buffalo jumping out to a 39-12 lead early. Buffalo showed everyone in attendence why the game is never over until the horn sounds. With 6 minutes to go in a foul filled game the Bison had cut the lead to 50-46. The orioles got tough on the defensive end to close out the Bison 65-50. Junior Danielle Mangen led the Orioles with 21 points, including 4 3 pointers. Senior Marny Ferrara played the entire second half for the Orioles and also chipped in 13 points.
Friday night Osseo got a 48-40 victory over Minnetonka. Osseo was down 5 at half, but held Tonka to 14 second half points to get the win. Sunnarborg had a very good all around game for the Orioles, and Kendra Ware was a huge factor down the stretch with 4 defensive rebounds in the last 2 minutes.
The Orioles next play the 22nd rated Minneapolis Southwest Lakers Friday night 7PM at Southwest.
